Abstract
Does learning require repetition? What factors affect recall? How important is diagnostic testing? A generation ago learning psychologists based answers to such questions on Thorndikean formulations. In this paper a leading contemporary educational psychologist discusses the new theories and explains some of the provocative experiments on which they are based.Keywords
