Collaborative study of a method for the determination of dimetridazole residues in chicken tissue

Abstract
A procedure is described for the determination of dimetridazole residues in chicken tissue. The dimetridazole is extracted with dichloromethane and co-extractives are separated by partition into dilute acid, which is then made alkaline and re-extracted with dichloromethane. The extract is concentrated to a small volume at as low a temperature as possible (<40 °C) for separation by high-performance liquid chromatography using a reversed-phase column and a UV detector. The procedure was validated by collaborative testing of tissue samples from birds fed elevated levels of dimetridazole.
