7416-keV2+Level inSi28and an Excited Prolate Rotational Band

Abstract
γ-ray coincidence measurements have revealed decay modes of the 7416 2+ level in Si28 to the 0+ level at 4975 keV (6.3±2.7)% and to the 2+ level at 1779 keV (4.4±2.3)%. The existence of an excited prolate rotational band in Si28 based on either the 4975- or 6691-keV 0+ states with the 7416-keV level as the 2+ member has been ruled out on the basis of lifetime and branching-ratio data.
