Abstract
Studies of atomic structure are being extended into highly ionised regimes in which relativistic and quantum electrodynamic interactions and effects due to the finite size of the nucleus may dominate the dynamical structure of the ions. These highly ionised atoms have important applications in astrophysics, fusion plasma and X-ray laser technology, and provide new tests of computational atomic theory. Keywords
