Abstract
1 The effect of somatostatin (SS, 10−6 m and 5 × 10−6 m) was studied on 45Ca fluxes in guinea-pig isolated atria. 2 SS produced a dose-dependent decrease in 45Ca uptake, this effect being dependent on the stimulation rate and Ca concentration in the bathing media. 3 The decrease in 45Ca uptake was more evident at faster (60 and 180 beats min−1) than at slower frequencies (15 beats min−1) and was less evident in high Ca (5.4 mm). 4 SS had no effect on 45Ca efflux. 5 These results suggest that SS inhibits the slow inward Ca current in guinea-pig atrial fibres. This publication has 27 references indexed in Scilit:
