Abstract
Injection into capons of 2 compounds (1-keto-1:2:3:4-tetrahydrophenanthrene and 9:10-dihydroxy-9:10-di-n-butyl-9:10-dihydro-l:2:5:6-dibenzanthracene) shown to be capable of inducing estrus in ovariectomized rats and mice (Cook, Dodds, Hewett and Lawson, ibid., p.272) resulted in conversion of the plumage into $ type, both in shape and pigmentation of the feathers. This is additional evidence that the synthetic estrogenic compounds can reproduce all the biological phenomena associated with the estrus-producing hormone. 1-Keto-1:2:3:4-tetra-hydrophenanthrene produced no reversion of plumage in an ovariectomized hen, possibly on account of insufficient dosage. This publication has 2 references indexed in Scilit:
