Abstract
The incidence of sports-related ocular injuries treated in hospital emergency departments continues to rise,13 and baseball accounted for the greatest number of sports-related eye injuries in the United States in 19914. Although most injuries occur in beginners and amateurs, professionals also sustain serious eye injuries. We investigated the incidence of ocular injuries in a prospective study of major-league baseball players.MethodsWe conducted a one-year prospective study of ocular injuries among professional baseball players from July 1991 to July 1992.
