Abstract
The attitudes of Czechoslovakian and American (Veterans Administration) psychologists and psychiatrists toward alcoholism, its causes and its treatment are compared. Practitioners in the 2 countries disagree on the definition of alcoholism and on the symptoms typical of alcoholism. Czechoslovakian practitioners view alcoholism as a disease. American practitioners as a behavioral problem. They disagree on financial benefits to be offered to alcoholics during treatment and agree on their reluctance to accept full-time assignment to the treatment of alcoholics.
