Abstract
The article examines the current debate about permeation and, with reference to specific examples, explores the comprehensiveness of any strategy for effective permeation of issues of race and gender in teacher education courses, ranging from the nature of academic and professional elements to institutional back‐up to ensure more than a tokenistic approach.Keywords
