Abstract
The force-time history required to produce an abrupt discontinuity in the transverse velocity of an infinite flat plate, moving in an inviseid fluid, and the velocity and acceleration produced by a suddenly applied force are calculated on the basis of the acoustic approximation, using techniques developed for the corresponding diffraction problem. Keywords
