Cocaine Identification

Abstract
Scott's three-solution procedure was examined and should be considered the method of choice for testing pure compounds suspected to be cocaine. Because of false positives for cocaine encountered with mixtures of drugs such as lidocaine and phencyclidine, Scott's procedure should be confirmed using Kodak's Field Kit for alkaloids, or a similar kit. As pointed out by Winek [3], all field testing procedures should be followed by laboratory confirmation.
