Abstract
White suggests that the theme of the teacher as a broker of scholarly knowl edge can be used to give unified pur pose to teacher preparation programs. The teacher is conceptualized as a pivotal person who is able to transform knowledge from the academic disci plines into pedagogically effective les sons that are appropriate, relevant, and interesting to students. The teacher as a broker of scholarly knowledge theme is used to frame an analysis of what two education students have learned and still need to learn about teaching in a teacher preparation program. Keywords
