Abstract
Oven-drying at 60°C under vacuum, and presumably also drying at higher temperatures, leads to relatively high losses of volatile, highly-calorific components, with a resultant underestimate of dry weight, lipid content and calorific content. Freeze-drying is to be generally recommended. Fresh material should be used wherever possible for the estimation of tissue parameters. Freezing or formalin-fixation may be used for estimations of wet weights, but only freezing if dry weights or calorific contents are also required. This publication has 3 references indexed in Scilit:
