Abstract
Three cases of intestinal obstruction are described in which the diagnosis was delayed because of the absence of gas in the bowel. The obstructed bowel was entirely fluid-filled and so abdominal distension was not marked, peristaltic sounds were not accentuated and the abdominal X-rays did not show air-fluid levels. Keywords
