Abstract
This volume is in continuation of the “Research Memoirs of the London School of Tropical Medicine” and is No. I of the new series. Since 1910 six volumes have been issued from the London School. The present volume contains parts I–IV, which relate principally to medical entomology. The author mentions that, “I hope later to publish my investigations into filariasis and other matters which relate to human beings.” A very complete description of the islands with maps of the southwestern Pacific opens the account of investigations which extended over a period of two years. A comprehensive authoritative study of the climate of Samoa, covering temperature, solar radiation, rainfall, atmospheric humidity, wind and evaporation, and katathermometer readings should prove invaluable to further investigators of local problems in tropical medicine. Present-day biological studies are inadequate without accurate climatological data. The detailed account of these islands might well serve as a guide to workers in any part of the world.
