Abstract
The unique contributions of cinefluorography to bronchography in elucidating important physiologic processes are illustrated and discussed within the framework of a practical simple classification of ventilatory dysfunctions of respiration. Cinefluorography has been found especially dependable in the assessment of local, regional or general ventilatory adequacy, and in the recognition, appraisal, and interpretation of several typical tracheobronchial deformities, most of which remain unrecognized or undifferentiable by conventional studies. Among these lesions, attention is called specifically to the phenomenon of tracheoor bronchomalacia, or expiratory buckling of diseased portions of trachea or bronchi. This entity, most often the result of chronic bronchitis although other types occur, appears to be crucial in the pathogenesis of many cases of obstructive emphysema and bronchiectasis. It can only be observed in vivo during active expiration or cough. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
