Removal of Gypsum from Microfossiliferous Shales

Abstract
The removal of gypsum from gypsum-rich, microfossil-bearing residues can significantly reduce acquisition time. It can be accomplished by a modification of the shale disaggregation techniques described by Collinson (1963) and Sohn et al. (1965), namely re-drying the gypsum rich residues and soaking them in organic solvent followed by immersion in water. Washing must occur within 30 min after the water is placed on the sample.
