Abstract
A Hermitian matrix which occurs in the theory of the quantum-mechanical inverse-scattering problem has apparently contradictory properties. It has a well-behaved inverse in spite of having zero as one of its eigenvalues. The properties of the matrix are investigated and the relevance of the results to the theory are discussed. Keywords
