Abstract
Cases of primary carcinoma in the middle ear are not very uncommon. According to Thorell (1935) there were about 80 cases of carcinoma among the 150 cases of malignant tumours in the middle ear brought together from the literature up to 1926 by Marx. There are of course many cases diagnosticized without being published. According to Rosenwasser (1940) comparisons from various places prove that malignant tumours in the middle ear are found in big ear clinics in a frequency varying from 1: 4,400 to 1: 42,000 (on an average about 1: 10,000).
