Abstract
The authors propose to define the effective average residential time in aerated immerged biological filters. It was found to depend both to the bed void factor, that varies with the biomasse and with the liquid retention ratio depending on the amount of air flowing into the filter. An example for a biological activated carbon filter, illustrates, the relation between these variables, the bed volume, the liquid flow, and the mean residential time.
