Abstract
Adolescence is looked upon as a gradual development rather than a cataclysmic change in ontogeny. In the menstruating primates puberty and the menarche are considered synonymous, whereas maturity is defined as the age when ovulation and successful pregnancy are possible. By and large, 11/2 years intervene in the female monkey between puberty and maturity, 2-4 years in girls. Collateral facts for mice and rats are cited. Keywords
