Abstract
It is suggested that the problems of overpopulation and continued population growth underlie and exacerbate our most pressing societal problems. While there are numerous political and ideological barriers to birth control, one solution would seem to be the identification and eventual manipulation of the psychological variables determining the contraceptive behavior of individuals. The articles in this special issue of The Journal of Sex Research represent just such an approach. Keywords
