Effects of cold environment on deposition of fat in the liver in choline deficiency

Abstract
Liver lipids were detd. on rats fed on a hypolipotropic diet and kept in a cold room at 1.5[degree]C compared to controls at 22[degree]C. In contrast to the controls, excessive deposition of fat in the liver did not occur. This difference was also observed with rats previously acclimatized to cold, and thyroidectomized maintained on a min. of thyroxine. Fat accumulation in the liver did occur on a high-fat, low-choline diet but the fat content of the liver was much less than the controls at room temp.
