Abstract
It is shown that in the direct modulation response of laser diodes a ripple occurs due to optical feedback from the transmission fibre. For feedback levels close to the coherence-collapse regime, the ripple may be of the order of several 10dBs. To reduce the ripple to below 1 dB, the optical feedback must be ≲ 10−6.Keywords
