Abstract
The amt. of uterine fluid present in the uterus of the rat during each stage of the oestrous cycle was detd. The fluid accumulates gradually during the dioestrous and prooestrous periods and is expelled during late oestrus. Neither artificial retention of the fluid nor its removal have any effect on subsequent oestrous cycles, showing that it is not necessary for the maintenance of the normal cycle. Collected fluid injected into castrate [female] rats failed to produce any evidence of hormonal action. Sperm transport is perceptibly slowed up when the fluid is removed immediately before copulation. This publication has 4 references indexed in Scilit:
