Abstract
Two marine Coccolithophorids are studied by means of transmission and scanning electron microscopy. The first one, described by P. Dangeard under the name Syracolithus roscoffensis, then by M. Chadefaud et J. Feldmann under the name Pontosphaera roscoffensis, is assigned to the genus Cricosphaera. The second one, described from Roscoff by F. Magne under the name Pontosphaera globosa, shows coccoliths with a quite different morphology but very close to the freshwater species Hymenomonas roseola. This study supports the distinction between the two genera Cricosphaera and Hymenomonas which, along with Ochrosphaera, are the most common neritic Coccolithophorids found in the English Channel.
