The Weak Mixing Angle at Low Energies
Abstract
We determine the weak mixing angle at energy scales relevant for present and future low energy electroweak measurements. We discuss the renormalization group evolution in the MS-bar scheme, and argue that the uncertainty arising from the hadronic contribution is small compared to anticipated experimental errors. As a byproduct, we find a definition of the weak mixing angle which is the electroweak analog of the electromagnetic fine structure constant. Its value is given by sin^2 theta_W = 0.23867 +- 0.00016.Keywords
