The Weak Mixing Angle at Low Energies

  • 15 September 2004
Abstract
We determine the weak mixing angle at energy scales relevant for present and future low energy electroweak measurements. We discuss the renormalization group evolution in the MS-bar scheme, and argue that the uncertainty arising from the hadronic contribution is small compared to anticipated experimental errors. As a byproduct, we find a definition of the weak mixing angle which is the electroweak analog of the electromagnetic fine structure constant. Its value is given by sin^2 theta_W = 0.23867 +- 0.00016.
