Sudden rotation total rotational inelastic cross sections for 4He+I2*

Abstract
An expression to calculate the total rotational inelastic cross section, based on the sudden rotation approximation, is derived. It is tested against the usual direct summation expression for the 4He+I2* system. The dependence of this cross section on the initial I2* rotational state is investigated.Keywords
