Abstract
Six successive faunal associations, clustering more than sixty five species of large mammals, are to be foned in the Pleistocene of the Middle East. These associations correspond to the biozones 19 (uppermost part of the lower Pleistocene), 23-24 (upper part of the middle Pleistocene) and 25-26 (upper Pleistocene) from Europe; the last zone includes two subzones; the lower part of the middle Pleistocene in not known in the area. The different origins of the involved species (most from the palaearctic region, but other from Ethiopian and palaeotropical regions too) will contribute in a near future to the correlation of the quaternary sites of these biogeographical provinces.
