Relaxation of HBr(v= 1), DBr(v= 1) and HCl(v= 1) by bromine atoms

Abstract
The laser induced infrared fluorescence method has been used to find rate constants at 295 K for: HBr(v= 1)+ Br → HBr(v= 0)+ Br (4) DBr(v= 1)+ Br → DBr(v= 0)+ Br (5) HCl(v= 1)+ Br → HCl(v= 0)+ Br (6) Known concentrations of Br atoms were obtained either by (a) direct dissociation of Br2 in a microwave discharge and titration of the atoms with NOCL, or (b) from the addition of Br2 to a measured flow of O atoms. For each system, the two measurements were in good agreement yielding: k4=(4.6 ± 0.5)× 10–12 cm3 molecule–1 s–1; k5=(4.1 ± 0.8)× 10–12 cm3 molecule–1 s–1; k6=(4.1 ± 0.5)× 10–13 cm3 molecule–1 s–1.
