Abstract
When excited by light at a wavelength corresponding to one of the "double transitions" of its molecular pairs, oxygen adsorbed on Vycor porous glass emits strong luminescence and also displays resonance Raman scattering. The intensities of both these phenomena have a remarkable dependence on the adsorbed oxygen coverage, increasing with decreasing coverage to a maximum at about 0.2 monolayer. We conclude that the random isolation of the molecules on the glass permits the study, at low temperatures, of oxygen in which nonradiative processes are suppressed. Keywords
