MECHANISM OF PROTEINURIA. EFFECT OF PARENTERAL BOVINE ALBUMIN INJECTIONS ON HEMOGLOBIN EXCRETION IN RATS

Abstract
Intraperit. injns. of bovine albumin (Fraction V) double the excretion of intraven. admd. Hb by the rat kidney, at comparable serum Hb concns. Under these conditions, the serum concn. threshold at which Hb appears in the urine is lowered from about 75 mg./100 cc. to less than 25 mg./lOO cc. The observed results may be explained by the saturation of a protein reabsorption mechanism and an increase in glomerular permeability to hemoglobin.
