Abstract
An overview is given of the author's research on neuroendocrine and neurochemical mechanisms in mammalian aging. Particular attention is given to the rationale behind the major phases of this work and the prevailing intellectual context. During the past 20 years, a major new area of research has emerged that promises to unify research on many subjects which were not traditionally considered within the perimeter of gerontology.
