Abstract
The genus Vibrissea is recognized for a group of primarily aquatic or semi-aquatic discomycetes with long, filiform ascospores. The genera Leptosporium. Apostemlum. Apostemidium and Ophiogloea are placed in synonymy, whereas Gorgoniceps is retained as a terrestrial genus. Variation in apothecial anatomy is described, and notes are provided on ascospore discharge, disarticulation, and germination, on iodine reactions of the ascus pore and of apothecial tissues, and on the position of the genus in the classification. A complete generic synonymy, diagnosis, and key to the 4 recognized sections is presented. Vibrissea sect. Apostemlum (Karst.) comb, nov. is based on Peziza sect. Apostemium Karst., while sects. Leuco-vibrissea Sanchez (holotype V. obconica (Kanouse) Sanchez, based on Apostemidium o. KanouseJ and Sncrostemlum Sanchez (holotype V. sporogyra (Ingold) Sanchez, based on Apostemidium s. Ingold) are newtaxaf. This publication has 2 references indexed in Scilit:
