-Vacancy Creation by High-Heavy-Ion Impact

Abstract
A competing process to direct -shell ionization by heavy-ion impact is suggested to account for some recent data by Macdonald et al. It is found that the high- dependence of the x-ray yields can be accounted for by inclusion of charge exchange into bound states of the fully stripped projectiles.
