Abstract
The dispersion and crystallography of the ordered tetragonal phase are discussed and a detailed model of the magnetic hardening process in PtCo presented. It is shown that small ordered particles of high anisotropy can pin domain walk and give rise to the observed hardening. The temperature variation of coercivity is explained in terms of a thermal fluctuation model and estimates of particle size from field ion microscopy, x-ray line broadening, and magnetic measurements are compared. Keywords
