Abstract
A basal section from a mature tree of rimu (Dacrydium cupressinum Lamb) was obtained from Harihari in south Westland by Mr D. A. Franklin of the New Zealand Forest Service. Its surface was finely sanded, and the growth rings identified and counted. The total number of rings, in 7 counts along different radii, was determined as 611, 618, 620, 622, 625, 629. This is a satisfactory agreement, considering the extreme narrowness of some of the outermost rings.
