Abstract
The axial gaseous permeability of conifer wood has been measured before and after saturation with a variety of liquids and redrying. It was possible to show that if the surface tension of the saturating liquid was progressively increased, the permeability of the wood alter redrying decreased as a result. This is in keeping with existing theory on the mechanism of bordered pit aspiration and known systematic variation of bordered pit structure across the growth ring. The bordered pits were found to fall into three categories, according to their susceptibility to aspiration. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
