Excitations of Bose condensates in optical lattices

Abstract
One of the most intriguing aspects of recent superfluid to Mott insulator phase transition experiments is the observation of resonance excitations when the optical lattice is tilted. In this paper, we present simulations of such systems and investigate what information the resonances give us about the initial state. We find that resonances due to secondary processes can be better indicators of squeezing than the main resonance. This is especially true for the variation of the resonance behaviour with the length of time a perturbation is applied.
