Abstract
An analysis has been carried out to determine an upper limit for the effective mass emissivity of the radiating gases in a solid fuel rocket motor. The calculations depend upon a comparison between experimentally observed performance data relating to a rocket motor and theoretical results based on a theory for the effect of radiation on the performance of solid fuel rocket motors. A simplified treatment is developed for correlating the rate of burning of the powder with the temperature rise of a powder grain caused by the absorption of radiant energy.
