Abstract
Life is a Miracle An Essay Against Modern Superstition. Wendell Berry. Counterpoint, Washington, DC, 2000. 163 pp. $21. ISBN 1-58243-058-6. In part provoked by E. O. Wilson's claims in Consilience , Berry argues that religion and the arts cannot be contained within the boundaries of modern science or understood through its materialistic and reductionistic assumptions. Our reviewer suggests that Wilson is not Berry's real enemy and that their shared concerns about the way we live and treat our planet might more effectively be addressed by cooperation.
