Abstract
The aim of this article is to introduce teleconferencing as a new, innovative and cost-effective approach to providing psychosocial support for women with secondary breast cancer. As medical treatments extend the life-expectancy of women with breast cancer the issue of appropriate professionally-led psychosocial intervention becomes more urgent. A limited review of the literature supporting these psychosocial needs is presented. The participants’ evaluation of a teleconferencing support group is also discussed. This article examines some of the problems associated with the availability of psychosocial support for women with secondary breast cancer. It highlights the value of a cooperative liaison between these women, health professionals and interested others in the decision-making process of any project set up to offer psychosocial support.
