Abstract
A steady‐state fully ionized plasma column of density 1016 cm−3 and temperature 1.6 eV has been achieved in a simple magnetically confined argon arc of 9‐ to 15‐cm length and 1.2‐ cm‐diameter current channel. The plasma potential fluctuation level, eV/kT, is 0.1%, or less when the initial gas pressure is above 4 Torr, or when the arc current and magnetic field are below critical values. This publication has 7 references indexed in Scilit:
