Abstract
The effects of various salts of EDTA upon cholesterol metabolism were studied in rats. Oral administration of these substances markedly increases dietary-induced hypercholesteremia by augmenting intestinal absorption of cholesterol. Chelating agents were not found to alter hepatic synthesis of cholesterol in rats or to interfere with the usual egress of cholesterol from plasma or to block deposition of cholesterol in the rat''s liver. Keywords
