Abstract
SUMMARY It appears that the one-way stimulation mixed leukocyte culture test is able to detect strong histoincompatibilities between two subjects. Each of four types of responses which may be observed on any independent pair of leukocyte mixtures can be predicted with a certain probability depending on the number of alleles and/or loci involved in the “major” histocompatibility system(s). Using simple random sampling of independent leukocyte mixtures, one can estimate the number of alleles or loci. This article is concerned with probability models and experimental designs relevant to this problem. Keywords
