Abstract
This study attempted to identify the perceptions of Black middle-aged women as they relate to selected background factors. Ss were 92 women of varied socioeconomic backgrounds ranging in ages from 40 to 65 years residing in Tallahassee, Florida. With use of chi square analysis no significant differences were found between perceptions and background factors. However, in four instances (physical appearance by age, physical exertion by employment, physical exertion by marital status, and illness by employment) significant differences were found, but did not color the overall finding. As hypothesized, perceptions were found to be similar among Black middle-aged women regardless of age, employment, marital status, educational status, and menopausal status. Keywords
