Fourth Progress Report on the British Institute of Radiology fractionation study on 3F/week or 5F/week treatment of larynx and pharynx

Abstract
The aims and methods of this clinical trial have been described in the first two Interim Progress Reports (1964; 1968). The third Interim Progress Report (1970) presented short-term results on a limited number of patients entering the trial up to December, 1968. In the present Interim Progress Report the short-term results of the patients admitted during the last year (January-December, 1969) are assessed and added to those of previous years, making a total of 268 patients assessed in this preliminary way. The data were extracted by hand, not yet by computer, so they have not the precision or completeness which should be achieved later. The total number of patients entered by all centres is as follows: It seems entirely likely that, if the present rate of entry is maintained, a definitive result will be obtained.
