Inelastic neutron scattering by coupled rotational and translational modes in CsCN

Abstract
Caesium cyanide, so far rarely investigated, has been studied with inelastic neutron scattering techniques between 295 and 195K. Clear effects due to a coupling of translational modes with internal states of the CN dumb-bell have been observed. The present experimental results are analysed assuming a simple form of the molecular excitation spectrum.
