Abstract
A general formula for the free energy of a polymeric mixture is given. Four terms are shown to be present the entropy of mixing the entropy of conformation, an isotropic interaction and an anisotropic interaction. The interaction parameters can be related to microscopic characteristics such as the degree of polymerisation (DP) and flexibility or persistence length. The DP dependence of the order-disorder transition of liquid crystal polymers is discussed. Keywords
