Abstract
Retention efficiency, E, of I. galbana and pumping rate, Rp, were measured in O. edulis using a direct method in short-term (4-5 h) and long-term (54-56 h) experiments. E and Rp varied in all experiments. In the short-term experiments E and Rp were positively correlated in 44.4% of the experiments and negatively correlated in 5.6%. Long-term experiments showed that the relationship between E and Rp changed during the course of each experiment. E and Rp were related to the concentration of flagellate cells between concentrations of 1.74 and 487.5 cells .mu.l-1. E declined exponentially with concentration, while Rp reached a maximum rate at 23.81 cells .mu.l-1 before declining at higher concentrations. This publication has 4 references indexed in Scilit:
